Britain’s longest reigning Monarch

Yesterday marked a huge milestone for 89 year old Queen Elizabeth II; she became Britain’s longest reigning monarch. ?At 17:30 BST she had reigned for 23,226 days, 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes – surpassing the reign of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

Angela one of CC’s owners and founders has shared some thoughts about this milestone as Angela?was a little girl?living?in London, England the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation.

“It was the day before my 6th birthday in London, and my Dad, just a few days before, had purchased our first TV – a Baby Bush – and if any of you remember that you are as old as I am! The reason, of course, was to watch the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second. Many of us children in London and all over England, celebrated this momentous occasion with wonderful and joyous street parties, and we were all given,I guess by the Government, never was quite sure, a miniature Coronation Coach and horses driving it, together with it a Coronation Crown in a special plastic case – a real one too. I really didn’t take that much notice being just 6 years old, I just knew that everyone was in an incredibly happy mood, especially as it was still somewhat post war austerity, but this seemed to spur everyone on. Since that time so many changes have happened – I for one came to this glorious country, newly married at the age of 22, man’s first landing on the moon to name but one spectacular change, the Swinging 60’s – of which I was a huge fan and part of, and which never left us baby boomers.? Imagine if The Queen should write a book – and she should – it would cover so many changes to our World during her reign. Because I love design and fashion? just looking at Her Majesty’s fashions and the changes she had made to her style along the decades is amazing – and furniture design itself has gone through incredible changes – some good, and some not so good, but like The Queen, there are some that have come down the centuries and will never go out of fashion, in fact they look better with age which, in my opinion the Queen does. And for many of us it is a comfort to have a constant, positive thread throughout our lives, which she has been.”

All of us at Consignment Canada would like to wish our Queen many congratulations on achieving the status of the longest reigning monarch in history.
