George Nelson, one of America’s most innovative designers of the 20th Century
August 27, 2015
Sometimes at CC we are lucky enough to receive some very special items.? This week we received two amazing pieces designed by the famous George Nelson who became the Director of Design for venerable furniture maker, Herman Miller.
George Nelson designed furniture for Herman Miller in the early to mid-20th century. George was a colleague of Ray & Charles Eames of the famously reproduced Eames Lounger.
George wanted America to start to move away from reproducing historic furniture styles and move towards the future. Some of George?s most famous designs include the Coconut Chair, Platform Bench, and the Marshmallow Sofa. Now George?s designs are reproduced over and over again throughout the world.
Check out this amazing matched set of office credenza and desk that we received this week. They have walnut tops and aluminum bottoms and their paint is original.? The finish on the metal is incredible quality. In the drawers, small walnut boxes nest ready to help you organize your paperclips and letter holders. These are quintessentially Mad Men style.? Both pieces were made in 1958 and have been in the same family ever since.? They are rare, practical and beautiful.? If you are a fan of mid-century modern pieces you will want to come and check these out.
